Dr. Miller will review progress over the past 5 years in building multi-scale models that integrate the imaging millimeter scales of MRI with the mesoscales of digital pathology and the sub-micron scales of spatial transcriptomics. He will describe new particle methods that are universal for spatially clusters multi-scale measurements to atlas partitions, also applications to understanding the spread of Alzheimer’s disease throughout the macro and microscopic anatomy of the medial temporal lobe will be reviewed.
Bio: Michael I. Miller, Ph.D., Bessie Darling Massey Professor and Director of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Miller is also co-director of the Kavli Neuroscience Discovery Institute. As a biomedical engineer who specializes in biomedical data science, Dr. Miller is pioneering cutting-edge technologies in computational medicine to understand and diagnose neurodegenerative diseases. His research focuses on the functional and structural characteristics of the human brain in health and disease, focusing on neurodegenerative diseases Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s. Dr. Miller has written two books, one entitled Random Point Processes in Space and Time with Donald L. Snyder, and one entitled Pattern Theory: An Emerging Discipline with Ulf Grenander. Dr. Miller has founded several companies in biomedical technologies for brain mapping.
